On October 20, 2025, residents of Yellowhead County will elect a new municipal council made up of 8 members of Council and one Mayor. This council will serve a four-year term from October 2025 to October 2029.

How to Vote
On election day, October 20, 2025, an elector is eligible to vote only at the voting station in which the elector’s place of residence is located, between the hours of 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM.
The Elector must produce valid identification that identifies the Elector and their address. The most common form of ID is a Valid Alberta Drivers License or an Alberta Identification Card.

NEW FOR 2025 – Register to Vote
Voters will be required to register to vote in Municipal Elections as per proposed changes to the Local Authorities Election Act (Bill 20 – Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act, 2024). The voters list will be provided to the County under a Data Sharing Agreement with Elections Alberta.
To avoid delays on election day, voters are encouraged to ensure they are registered to vote by visiting Voterlink in advance of the election or calling 780 427 7191.

Special Ballots Voting
A special ballot is available for eligible voters who are registered and listed on the Permanent Electors Register and are unable to vote during Advance Voting or on Election Day.
Not sure if you are registered or on the permanent electors register? Visit www.voterlink.ab.ca to check your voter registration status. Voters not registered prior to August 15, 2025, will be required to submit all documents.
An eligible voter must submit a request to the Returning Officer for a special ballot. Requests for special ballots can only be submitted from Monday, September 1, 2025, to 12 Noon on Monday, October 6, 2025.
Eligible voters requesting a special ballot are required to make the request using the Request for Special Ballot Package (Form 22). The request cannot be made by another individual on the eligible voter’s behalf.

September 1, 2025 Applications open for special ballots. September 29, 2025 The Election Office will start distributing special ballot packages to eligible voters who have requested them. October 6, 2025, at 12:00 Noon Application deadline for requesting special ballots. October 20, 2025 at 4:00 PM Completed special ballots must be received by the Returning Officer. You can request a special ballot by completing the Request for Special Ballot (Form 22) and submitting it to the Returning Officer:
- In person at the Edson Administration office at 2716 1st Avenue, Edson, AB or the Wildwood Administration office at 53404 Range Road 92 A, Wildwood, AB, during regular business hours;
- In writing; or
- By email to elections@yhcounty.ca

Instructions for Voters not on the Permanent Electors Register
Voters who are not on the Permanent Electors Register can still apply for a special ballot package, however, must provide the following:
- Print and Complete Form 22– Request for Special Ballot Package
- A copy of the required identification (link to identification requirements)
- Print and complete the statement of elector eligibility on Form 13 – Elector Register
- Submit application for special ballot as listed above.
Special Ballot Packages will be mailed starting September 29, 2015.
After you have voted, it is your responsibility to ensure your special ballot is returned to the Yellowhead County Offices in Edson or Wildwood no later than 4:00 PM on October 20, 2025. Completed special ballots may be returned:
- In person at Yellowhead County offices:

- 53404 Range Road 92A, Wildwood, AB
- By mailing to 2716 1st Avenue, Edson, AB T7E 1N9.
Please note that any special ballot packages that are incorrect or incomplete, or received after 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025, will not be accepted or counted.

Who Can Vote
To vote in the Yellowhead County municipal election, you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be a Canadian citizen
- Reside in Alberta and the person’s place of residence* is located in Yellowhead County on election day
- Be named on the permanent election register & a valid government issued photo ID
* Residence is defined by the local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) as ‘the place where the person lives and sleeps and to which, when the person is absent, the person intends to return”. If you need more information on the rules of residence, please see section 48 of the LAEA.

Accepted Voter Identification
ID Requirements
Option A – Resident can vote if their name is on the Permanent Electors Register and they produce one piece of ID issued by a Canadian government, whether federal, provincial or local, or an agency of the government, that contains full name and photograph.
Example: driver’s licence; Alberta ID card; Canadian passportOption B – Residents not on the Permanent Electors Register, or who are on the Register, but do NOT have government-issued photo ID at the voting station must complete the Elector Register and provide one of the following:
o One piece of identification issued by a Canadian government, (federal, provincial or local), or one of its agencies that includes the elector’s photograph, full name, and residential address.
OR
o Any piece of identification listed on the Yellowhead County website that contains both the elector’s name and residential address.
OR
o One piece of identification that shows the elector’s name, and be accompanied by a voucher—an eligible voter who meets the requirements and completes Statement of Voucher.If you are an Alberta resident who can legally live in Canada and do not have a valid government issued photo ID, you can apply for an ID card to use as photo identification by visiting Registry Services
Electors who cannot produce government-issued identification must produce one piece of identification (as approved by the Chief Electoral Commissioner under the Election Act) that establishes a person’s name and current address. Vouching
If a voter does not have acceptable ID with their current address, they may have another voter vouch for their address. The voter must still provide acceptable ID from the list above with their name on it.
The person vouching (the voucher) must:
- be eligible to vote,
- have acceptable ID,
- be listed on the Permanent Electors Register (PER), and
- at the voting station, complete Form 14 Statement of Voucher.
Form 14 Statement of Voucher sets out that the voucher:
- knows the person,
- knows the person resides at the address indicated on the statement, and
- has not been vouched for themselves.
A voucher may only vouch for more than one person, if the people they are vouching for live in the same residence (one household maximum).
Scrutineers are prohibited from vouching.
