On October 20, 2025, residents of Yellowhead County will elect a new municipal council made up of 8 members of Council and one Mayor. This council will serve a four-year term from October 2025 to October 2028.

How to Vote
On election day, October 20, 2025, an elector is eligible to vote only at the voting station in which the elector’s place of residence is located, between the hours of 10:00 AM and 8:00 PM.
The Elector must produce valid identification that identifies the Elector and their address. The most common form of ID is a Valid Alberta Drivers License or an Alberta Identification Card.

NEW FOR 2025 – Register to Vote
Voters will be required to register to vote in Municipal Elections as per proposed changes to the Local Authorities Election Act (Bill 20 – Municipal Affairs Statutes Amendment Act, 2024). The voters list will be provided to the County under a Data Sharing Agreement with Elections Alberta.
To avoid delays on election day, voters are encouraged to ensure they are registered to vote by visiting Voterlink in advance of the election or calling 780 427 7191.

Special Ballots Voting
If you are an elector who cannot vote at an advance vote or at the voting station on election day, you may apply to vote by special ballot. ** Please note your name must be on the permanent electors register. Please check if you are registered by visiting Voterlink, once registered you may apply for a special ballot.
Applications for special ballots will be received at the Yellowhead County office in Edson during regular business hours between September 1, 2025, until 12:00 noon on October 6, 2025. You may request the special ballot:

Who Can Vote
To vote in the Yellowhead County municipal election, you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be a Canadian citizen
- Reside in Alberta and the person’s place of residence* is located in Yellowhead County on election day
- Show identification to verify your name and address.
- Complete a statement confirming that you are eligible to vote and that you have not previously voted in this election.
- Be named on the permanent election register (with ID)
* Residence is defined by the local Authorities Election Act (LAEA) as ‘the place where the person lives and sleeps and to which, when the person is absent, the person intends to return”. If you need more information on the rules of residence, please see section 48 of the LAEA.

Accepted Voter Identification
Voters will be required to have a valid government issued photo ID to vote. For example, an Identification Card issued by a Canadian government, federal, provincial or local, or an agency of that government, that contains a photograph of the person. The following are other examples of acceptable forms of photo ID a voter can use:
- Driver’s licence issued by any official government
- Department of National Defence driver’s licence (DND 404)
- Canadian Armed Forces Identification Card
- A Canadian Passport, NEXUS card or permanent resident card
If you are an Alberta resident who can legally live in Canada and do not have a valid government issued photo ID, you can apply for an ID card to use as photo identification by visiting Registry Services
Electors who cannot produce government-issued identification must produce one piece of identification (as approved by the Chief Electoral Commissioner under the Election Act) that establishes a person’s name and current address.
